Hands - On workshop learning the Dry Scrape method of turning a raw deer hide into soft buckskin
Come and join Darryl Patton and James Gibson for a great workshop learning the skills of our ancestors. In this workshop, we will be teaching the Dry Scrape method of brain tanning. This is your chance to learn an ancient skill practiced by cultures around the world. During this two day class, participants will learn how to dry scrape, brain, and smoke a White Tail deer skin. Participants will also learn how to take the end product and make a bag, moccasins or arrow quiver. For more information click here

Primitive Skills / Survival Weekend

This course focuses on the fundamentals of survival and primitive skills. Some of the skills covered are firemaking, shelter construction, trapping and snaring, edible and medicinal plants, navigation without modern gear, water pruification, and survival kits. There are no housing facilities at this location. Students can make hotel arrangements or they can camp on the 160 acre farm where the event is being held (no charge for camping). Fresh water is available on the farm.

  • Lunch will be in the field. Bring enough food to sustain long days with only short breaks.
  • Be prepared for long days. Bring appropriate clothing
  • In addition to food and water, students should bring a note pad and pencil.
  • Recommended items include hat, sunscreen, soft footwear
  • Camping gear
